‘We Never Wanted To Offend Or Mock Osimhen’

Serie A champions Napoli have released an official statement on the controversial TikTok video involving their Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen.

Osimhen was infuriated after a video was posted on the clubโ€™s TikTok account this week.

In the video, Osimhen was mocked for missing a penalty in the Partenopeiโ€™s 0-0 draw against Bologna last weekend.

Osimhenโ€™s agent Roberto Calenda threatened to take legal action against Napoli following the incident.

The 24-year-old also took down all images of him in the Partenopei jersey on his social media accounts.

The Partenopei stated they didnโ€™t mean any harm with the message.

โ€œCalcio Napoli, wishing to avoid any exploitation of the issue, point out that we never wanted to offend or mock Victor Osimhen, who is a treasure of this club,โ€ reads the statement.

โ€œAs proof of that, during the summer training retreat, the Club firmly rebuffed every offer that was received for the strikerโ€™s transfer abroadโ€.

โ€œSocial media, in particular TikTok, has always used an expressive form of language with a light heart and creativity, without wanting to, as in the case with Osimhen as protagonist, have any intention of insult or derisionโ€.

โ€œIn any case, if Victor perceived any offence towards him, this was not what the club intendedโ€.

Osimhen scored a goal and provided an assist in Napoliโ€™s 4-1 win against Udinese on Wednesday night.

He has scored four goals in six league appearances for the Partenopei this season.

The striker was top scorer in Serie A last season with 26 goals in 32 appearances.
