Benue: PDP faults Alia for not naming security adviser

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue state Sunday faulted Governor Hyacinth Alia, for what the party described as “snubbing” of an ultimatum by the Benue state House of Assembly requiring him to unfailingly appoint a special adviser to his office on Security Matters within 72 hours.

The House of Assembly was said to have given an ultimatum to the governor, Tuesday, at its plenary in line with its lawful powers to oversight him.

Though the state assembly on its part was yet to react to the delay, the PDP in a statement issued by the publicity secretary, Bemgba Iortyom, said his party found the situation as an unacceptable abnegation of duty on the part of the legislature.

He said PDP has consistently maintained that Governor Alia owed the people of Benue a duty of accountability and transparency in the handling of their affairs including security, and the refrain that he preferred to handle security matters discreetly is untenable as a defence under the present circumstance.
