Kano: 380 arrested, 230 convicted for crackdown on drug abuse – Yusuf

Executive Governor of Kano State.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said on Thursday that over 380 suspects have been arrested in drug abuse-related matters and 230 have been convicted so far in the first two months of the state’s intensified campaign against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The governor stated this while speaking at the 66th anniversary of Independence celebration held at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kofar Mata, Kano.

He said the state government established the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in July 2026 and issued an executive order to strengthen the fight against illicit substances, crime and related criminal activities.

He said the task force has also dismantled drug dealings and criminal hideouts across the state since its establishment.

Governor Yusuf described the fight against drug abuse and crime as a shared responsibility involving government, security agencies, traditional institutions, religious leaders, communities, parents and citizens.

He appealed to young people to reject drugs, violence and crime, calling on them to embrace education, agriculture, technology, business, vocational training and the creative industries.

The governor said his administration will continue to support security agencies, strengthen intelligence at the community level and address social challenges that contribute to crime and insecurity.
