Former APC chairman, Lukman decried the party’s poor performance in fulfilling its campaign promises

Salihu Lukman, former National Deputy Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has delivered scathing criticism of the party’s failure to fulfill its campaign promises, stating that they are “doing poorly” in fulfilling their commitments to security, economic stability and anti Corruption.

In an interview with Arise TV on Monday, Lukman expressed his disappointment and frustration with the party’s performance, saying: “I admit that in terms of fulfilling our campaign promises, we have done badly, there is no doubt about it. And what are his campaign promises? Security, economic issues, eradicating corruption. We have done bad things, and people are free to draw conclusions about whether APC is worse than PDP or not.”

Lukman’s comments came after he resigned from the party, citing the need for new leadership that was different from previous government practices.

According to Lukman, he hopes that the new leadership can learn from past mistakes, but unfortunately they continue to do the same things.

One of the most controversial decisions taken by President Tinubu, according to Lukman, was the declaration of an immediate end to fuel subsidies without planning and preparation. This, he said, has led to a significant worsening of living conditions, and the absence of a plan to respond to emerging challenges.

Lukman also criticized the government’s spending priorities, which allocated 15 trillion naira for the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway and ignored urgent needs in education and health.

He said that allocations for education were not enough to address the critical problem of out-of-school children, who currently number 10 million in North Korea.

The former APC deputy chairman warned that the party’s continuation of “business as usual” could lead to a worse situation, and by the end of the year, the people may be forced to support any leader out of anger and frustration, potentially electing a worse replacement. to President Tinubu.

Lukman’s comments highlight the deep frustration within the APC and the need for a new approach to address the country’s existing challenges. His criticism echoes the sentiments of many Nigerians who feel that the party has failed to deliver on its promises and that a new direction is needed to address the country’s pressing problems.
