Unidentified gunmen have kidnapped a police officer and a driver working for His Excellency (HRH), Chief Cornwell Ihunwo, a prominent ruler of Rumu-Elechi community in Nkpolu-Orowurokwo, Port Harcourt City Local Government Area of ​​Rivers State.

The kidnapping occurred at the king’s residence around Eagle Island on Saturday night.

Godstime Ihunwo, executive member of Diobu Vigilante and Head of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo Security, disclosed that the incident occurred around 8pm and the initial target of the kidnapping was the king.

He stated: “I received a call about the kidnapping of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo at around 9pm on Saturday. I rushed to his house on Eagle Island, where I met him. Chief Cornwell told me it was the driver and the police officer who were kidnapped.”

Godstime Ihunwo condemned the attempted abduction of the king, and called for a thorough police investigation.

“We condemn the plot to kidnap HRH Cornwell Ihunwo and call on the Police to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.”

The Public Relations Officer of the State Police Command, Grace Iringe-Koko, a Police Inspector, confirmed the incident and stated that investigations were underway.
