A 28-year-old man identified as Ufuoma Usiaie on Wednesday morning hacked to death a priest at St. John’s Anglican Church, Okpare-Olomu in Delta State, Rev. Isaac Usiaie, with a machete.
Ufuoma attacked his father in the early hours of the morning after an argument the previous night.
The attack was so brutal that neighbors and church members who rushed to the scene were unable to intervene in time.
Although the motive behind the killing remains unclear, local residents told reporters that the suspect suffered from mental health problems.
The victim’s wife, who tried to intervene, was nearly injured.
The suspect has been detained by police while an investigation into the murder has begun.
