NSCDC hands over captured inmates back to NCoS in Imo

The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Friday handed over a convict to the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) in Imo State.

The state commander of NSCDC, Mr. Matthew Ovye, handed over the 28-year-old suspect shortly after he paraded the suspect and one other person before journalists in Owerri.

Ovye said the suspect, Chinonso Kalu, was arrested by NSCDC officers at Hero Square in Owerri on June 6.

He said Kalu was arrested after he robbed unsuspecting passers-by of their belongings.

The commander said: β€œIn our investigation, it was discovered that the suspect was one of the inmates who took advantage of the Owerri prison break on April 5, 2021 to escape from the facility.

β€œTherefore, we handed him over to NCoS to be re-admitted to the facility and other necessary actions taken.’

A Corrections Inspector, Mr. Casmir Obiozor, who received the inmate on behalf of the NCoS, said he would have it officially documented before taking any other appropriate action.
