He has a better chance: Ndidi backs Lookman to dethrone Osimhen as African Player of the Year

The battle for who will be the next African Player of the Year has been narrowed down to two players for Nigerian international midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, Own goal Nigeria.com reports.

Victor Osimhen is the current holder of the award, but he did not have the kind of season that helped him secure the award, due to injuries and fitness problems and a below-par performance at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Considering the player most likely to replace the 25-year-old, Ndidi picked Ademola Lookman, who starred for the Nigerian team with three goals at the AFCON, as the favourite for the award, which will be held in December.

As well as the African Cup of Nations, Lookman was also the star of the Europa League with his hat-trick in the final game giving Atalanta a 3-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen. Ndidi said he has a better chance of representing Osimhen thanks to what he did last season.

“I honestly think Ademola (Lookman) has a better chance of winning. Although both he and Osimhen have done well for their clubs, Ademola has a better chance,” Ndidi told the online edition of This Day newspaper.
