Fubara loyalists in the River Assembly will screen other commissioner candidates

The Rivers State House of Representatives faction loyal to Governor Siminalayi Fubara is scheduled to screen new commissioner candidates on Monday (today).

This development comes amid an ongoing rift between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

The factional assembly led by Oko-Jumbo as Chairman, issued a public notice on Sunday inviting “Emmanuel Frank-Fubara to be screened as a member of the Rivers State Executive Council.”

This marks the third commissioner screening conducted by the Fubara-aligned faction since the Assembly split late last year.

The public notice was signed by the Clerk of the Factional Assembly, Dr GM Gillis-West.

“Candidates must come with 12 sets of Curriculum Vitae and original and photocopies of their credentials,” the statement read.

The Rivers State House of Representatives currently operates with two factions. One led by Speaker Oko-Jumbo, supports Governor Fubara.

Another group led by Martin Amaewhule remains loyal to former Governor Wike. The split stems from a long-standing feud between Fubara and Wike.

The Court of Appeal in May barred Amaewhule and 25 others from appearing as members of the Assembly.

However, an Abuja Court of Appeal last week quashed the order and reinstated the 26 lawmakers who left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in October last year.
