CAF increases the cash prize for WAFCON winners to 2 million dollars ahead of Morocco 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced an increase in prize money for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), with tournament winners receiving $2 million.

CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe confirmed the expanded prize fund ahead of the competition, which will take place in Morocco from July 26 to August 16, 2026.

The champions’ reward represents a 100 percent increase on the amount received by the Nigerian Super Falcons after winning the delayed WAFCON 2024 title last year. The move underlines CAF’s continued commitment to investing in the growth and development of women’s football across Africa.

Under the revised prize structure, the runners-up will receive $750,000, while each of the 16 participating teams is guaranteed $150,000, ensuring that each nation benefits financially from competing in the continental tournament.

Beyond the prize money, the stakes are even higher as WAFCON 2026 will also serve as the African qualifying tournament for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. The teams will fight not only for continental supremacy but also for the opportunity to represent Africa on the world stage.

The tournament begins this Sunday in Morocco, with the continent’s best women’s teams competing for the coveted title in what promises to be one of the most competitive editions of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
