NGX: Equity market starts week with N8 billion loss as PZ, CWG and CHAMS share prices fall

The equity market started the week on a negative note as investors recorded losses of N8 billion at the end of the trading session on Monday, July 8, 2024.

This follows the decline in stock prices such as PZ, CWG, CHAMS and others on the trading floor today.

After five hours of trading on the capital market, equity capitalization decreased to N56.572 trillion from N56.581 trillion posted by the exchange on Friday, July 5, 2024.

The All Share Index (ASI) increased to 100,007.11 from 100,022.03 recorded on the previous trading day.

Market breadth was negative as 22 stocks advanced and 24 stocks declined, while 69 stocks remained unchanged in 7,931 trades.

VERITASKAP, DAARCOMM, and CONOIL led other gainers with share price growth of 9.57%, 8.33%, and 8.26% respectively to close at N1.26, N0.52, and N136.95 from previous prices of N1.15, N0.48, and N126.50 per share.

On the other hand, PZ, CWG and CHAMS led the other price decliners as they fell by 10%, 9.80% and 9.66% respectively to close at N19.80, N6.90 and N2.15 from initial prices of N22.00, N7.65 and N2.38 per share.

On the volume index, ELLAHLAKES led the trade with 271 million shares worth N814 million in 34 deals followed by UNIVINSURE which traded 42 million shares in 103 deals worth N14 million.

GTCO traded 40 million shares worth N31.937 billion in 636 transactions.

On the value index, GTCO recorded the highest value for daily traded shares worth N1.937 billion in 636 transactions followed by UBA which traded equities worth N846 million in 500 transactions.

ELLAHLAKES traded shares worth N814 million in 34 transactions.
