Nigeria’s first-team striker Victor Osimhen’s rant against former team coach Finidi George has dominated headlines in discussions about Nigerian football. Own goal Nigeria.com reports.
Osimhen responded to criticism from the coach over reports that the latter questioned his commitment to the team following his absence through injury in the World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic respectively.
He has been heavily criticised for his outburst with many calling it unprofessional, but despite calls for an apology he has stood his ground and appears to have gained some backing from his close friend and attacking teammate Victor Boniface.
Boniface made a cryptic post on his Instagram addressing people who expect football players not to respond when they are attacked by criticism, the message somehow shows that he is leaning towards Osimhen for his decision to respond to the alleged statement made about him by the coach.
“Some of you think people are playing ball. Let’s say you’re calm and you insult them. I’m laughing at you in German. Some of us are too,” he posted in pidgin.
Translated as “Some of you think that because we are footballers we are supposed to keep quiet and allow ourselves to be insulted. I laugh at you in German. Some of us are crazy too.”
