President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday promised more investment in arts and culture to equip the younger generation with knowledge of Nigeria’s past events.

The president made the pledge at a stage production in honour of his late mother, Hajiya Abibatu Mogaji, in Abuja.

He said the government would invest more in arts and culture to create a pathway for the future.

The play titled: “Abibatu Mogaji: An Opera,” was staged at the State Palace Conference Centre, Abuja, with Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, and other dignitaries in attendance.

President Tinubu’s mother died on June 15, 2013, at the age of 96.

The president said he inherited resilience, determination and discipline from his “tough and determined” mother.

He said: “My first restaurant was the best. My first toilet was the best. My first bedroom was her back. There’s no way I would have come this far, and grown this old without her care.”

Tinubu thanked the Executive Producer of the drama, Mr. Ola Awakan, and the Director, Dr. Ahmed Yerima for writing the script and directing the drama to immortalize his mother.

He praised the duo for producing a “thoroughly researched” drama that reflected moments of his mother’s life on earth.

“I can see that they know him very well. He is a tough guy. He is a disciplined guy. I thank God for the gift that I got from him.

“It is a gift of character and determination that is eternal. Never giving up,” the president said.
