Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation, expressed his heartfelt gratitude following the release of two Kaduna journalists who were kidnapped from their home on the outskirts of Kaduna last weekend.
Abdulgafar Alabelewe, a journalist with The Nation, and AbdulRaheem Aodu of Blueprint newspaper, were taken along with their families in a daring raid by bandits in Dahono Community, Millennium City area of Chikun Local Government Area.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant on Media, Rabiu Ibrahim, Minister Mohammed Idris commended the security agencies for their swift action in rescuing the abductees. The journalists and their families regained their freedom on Saturday night, thanks to the coordinated efforts of the security forces.
“We are very grateful for what you have done. We recognize that this is part of your ongoing efforts to ensure that all abductees are rescued alive and reunited with their families,” the minister’s statement said.
Minister Idris also expressed sympathy to the families of the abducted journalists and called on Nigerians to maintain confidence in the government of President Bola Tinubu and the security agencies.
“We wish to urge Nigerians to remain loyal to the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and our security agencies. The security agencies under the coordination of the NSA are working tirelessly to ensure that all those who have been unlawfully detained are released without payment of ransom,” the statement further stated.

National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu officially handed over the rescued victims to Minister Idris, stressing that the successful rescue operation was the result of careful planning and collaboration between security agencies.
Abdulgafar Alabelewe, also chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists in Kaduna State, expressed his deepest gratitude to the NSA and its team for their prompt response.
“The rescue mission that brought us out of the forest yesterday gave us hope in our country and gave us confidence that the government is serious about dealing with this kidnapping issue. I never thought that within a week of our kidnapping, we would be able to come out,” Alabelewe said.
“We are grateful that the government acted quickly and ensured that we were released,” he concluded.
The kidnapping of journalists and their subsequent rescue underscores the ongoing security challenges faced in parts of Nigeria. However, it also highlights the proactive steps taken by the government and security agencies to ensure the safety of all citizens.
