A Muslim group welcomes Tinubu, calls for a change of power in Ogun, praises Abiodun

The Muslim Advocacy Group has welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Ogun State ahead of the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport, describing the project as a catalyst for economic growth and regional development.

In a statement issued on Saturday by its Publicity Secretary, Abdul Semi’u Adebesin, the group said the President’s visit to inaugurate the airport marked a major milestone in the state’s infrastructural progress and investment drive.

The group noted that the airport would significantly improve connectivity, open up Ogun State to more local and foreign investments and strengthen its position as a strategic economic hub in Nigeria.

He also commended Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for executing what he described as a landmark project, saying the feat reflected the administration’s commitment to sustainable development and long-term economic planning.

“Gateway International Airport is a bold, visionary project that emphasizes focused leadership and a clear roadmap for economic expansion,” the statement read.

While applauding the project, the group reiterated its call for equity and inclusion in the state’s political leadership, particularly ahead of the 2027 gubernatorial election.

He noted that since the creation of Ogun State in 1976, only one Muslim has been democratically elected governor, despite the significant contribution of Muslims to the socio-economic development of the State.

The group recalled that calls for a Christian successor were welcomed at the end of that administration in the interest of fairness, stressing that the same principle should guide policy considerations when the current administration ends.

“In the spirit of justice, fairness and consistency, it is right and appropriate for a Muslim to emerge as governor in the 2027 elections,” the group said.

According to the organisation, Ogun State boasts a pool of competent and capable Muslim leaders who can effectively guide the affairs of the State, adding that its position was driven by the need to promote unity, inclusion and balanced representation.

The group, however, wished the President a successful inauguration ceremony and prayed for continuation of peace, progress and prosperity in Ogun State and the country at large.
