The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has charged South East leaders to openly support President Bola Tinubu because of his love for their people.
Umahi made the appeal on Thursday in Enugu while inaugurating completed portions of the Enugu-Onitsha Federal Highway.
The minister tasked the “political leader of the area”, Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, to galvanize vocal support.
“All the governors in the area support the president, but we must bring support to the people.
“They must be enlightened about Tinubu’s great works for us and when we appreciate what he has done, he will do more.
“No matter what is said about me, especially on social media, my mouth will not be shut in touting the president’s good works,” he said.
He said people should be grateful to Tinubu because he solved the problem of marginalization in the area.
“This is the first time we have the position of Minister of Works and two consecutive positions of Head of Service.
“I thank our people for supporting the rumors about my resignation as minister to run for the Senate.
“This shows that they understand the importance of being Works Minister and I want them to extend that to Tinubu,” he said.
Umahi urged citizens of the South East to be strategic in voting during the 2027 elections, stressing that no less than 80% of their votes should be for Tinubu.
“The presidency is not given by vulgar language and simple chatter, but by a strategic commitment to be in the political showdown.
“If we support a citizen of the South West today, people will support us when it is our turn to become president.
“Tinubu has intervened in several infrastructure projects and human betterment policies in the south-eastern zone,” he said.
