Adanaspor signs Nigerian midfielder Bonke Innocent from FC Lorient

Turkish First Division side Adanaspor have confirmed the signing of Nigerian international Bonke Innocent from French Ligue 2 side FC Lorient.

The defensive midfielder has signed a contract until June 30, 2024, with an option to extend until the 2025-2026 season.

Bonke, 28, had not played for Lorient this season, sparking speculation about his future before completing his move to Turkey. He joined Lorient in January 2022 as a free agent and made 42 appearances in all competitions, including 41 in Ligue 1.

Despite his contributions, Bonke found himself on the fringes of the team this season, prompting his decision to seek a new challenge.

The Nigerian midfielder began his professional career at Bujoc FC before moving to Moderate Stars. He made his European debut with Norwegian club LillestrΓΈm and later enjoyed a successful spell with Swedish champions MalmΓΆ FF, where he featured in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League.

Since arriving in Europe in 2014, Bonke has amassed 195 career appearances, including 27 in European competitions.

On the international stage, Bonke made his debut for Nigeria’s Super Eagles in a World Cup qualifier against Cape Verde in September 2021. He has been capped four times for his country, although he has not been called up since May 2022.

Bonke’s move to Adanaspor represents a new opportunity to revitalize his career and compete for regular playing time in Turkey.
