Amaechi’s statement statement is about power, political relevance – wike

The Minister of Federal Capital Region (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday criticized the former Governor of the State Rivers, Rotimi Amaechi, for the comments showing that he was “hungry.”

Wike, who spoke in a media chat in Abuja, described the statement as misleading and insulting the sensitivity of the Nigerians.

He said it was not honest for someone from Amaechi’s stature, who had held several high -ranking positions over the past two decades, to claim all forms of material starvation.

Wike insisted that the former longing for the former Minister of Transportation was for relevance and political power.

He said: “I don’t know why a man chooses his 60th birthday to lie. It is unfortunate. At all times, on your 60th birthday, when people celebrate you?”

The Governor of the former Rivers state, now a political rival, has a long history of collaboration and conflict.

Amaechi served as governor from 2007 to 2015, after the term of office eight years as a speaker of the Rivers State Assembly. Wike replaced him in 2015 and served two periods before his appointment as minister in August 2023.

Amaechi, during the event which was held last Friday to mark his 60th birthday, expressed dissatisfaction and signaling the possibility of aligned with opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to shift the President of the Tinubu Bola in 2027 General Elections 2027 General

The former governor said he was “hungry” and was ready to join the coalition against the current government.

Wike, however, refused the comment as a politically accused and dishonest.

“He was a speaker from 1999 to 2007, the most spoiled speaker. He was the governor for eight years and then the minister for the other eight.

“For someone who has access without interruption to public office and privilege, to now claim hunger is not only dishonest but insult to Nigerians everyday that is truly facing economic difficulties,” said Minister FCT.
