APC disavows results of “unauthorized” senatorial primaries, warns against premature announcements

The All Progressives Congress has distanced itself from the results of the ongoing direct senatorial primaries spread across several states, declaring them unauthorized and in violation of party directives.

There is also growing anxiety within political circles over an alleged plan to publish what is described as a “FG list”, with the federal government reportedly expected to unveil a document containing preferred candidates, further fueling concerns about the transparency of the process.

In a statement released Monday by the Office of the National President, the party said its attention had been drawn to what it described as “unauthorized announcements” of primary election results that had emerged from several parts of the country.

The statement underlines that such statements contravene the position of the party’s National Secretariat and the directive of the National Working Committee, which had dictated that no results should be made public at the senatorial level until due process has been completed.

According to the party, all results must undergo a formal review, verification and approval process by the NWC before any official announcement can be made.

“The NWC has explicitly indicated that no results should be announced until they have been duly reviewed and approved. Any results currently in circulation do not represent the party’s official position,” the statement read.

The APC, therefore, urged its members and the general public to ignore any figures or findings speculated on or shared across the platforms, warning that they lack authenticity.

Reaffirming its commitment to internal democracy, the party assured stakeholders that the primary process will be conducted in a transparent, free and credible manner.

He added that the authentic results will be formally communicated at the end of the entire exercise.

The statement was signed by the Chief of Staff to the National President, Hon Albukareem Bala Kwara and dated 18 May 2026.
