Aregbesola rules out the return of the APC, the ruling party is to blame for the difficulties

African Democratic Congress national secretary Rauf Aregbesola on Sunday dismissed speculation about a possible return to the All Progressives Congress, saying he had “no reason” to join the ruling party.

Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun State, spoke at the African Democratic Congress stakeholders meeting held in Ilesa, where he also criticized the APC-led federal government for worsening economic conditions.

He said the current leadership of the APC has deviated from the founding ideals of the party, accusing it of failing in its prime responsibility of ensuring the welfare and safety of citizens.

“I am not planning a return to the APC. Such statements are a figment of their imagination. I have no reason to go back,” he said.

The ADC boss added that Nigerians are grappling with growing difficulties under the current administration, urging Osun residents to rally behind his party as a credible alternative.

He praised party members for remaining steadfast despite what he described as intimidation and political pressure, insisting that the ADC was gaining momentum ahead of the state governorship poll.

Aregbesola expressed his support for the party’s candidate, Najeem Salaam, describing him as committed to restoring development in the state.

Additionally, Salaam called for unity among the party faithful, vowing to tackle unemployment, poverty and inequality if elected.

He pledged to provide affordable housing and address governance gaps of the past seven years, stressing that his administration will prioritize people-centered policies.

Earlier, Osun ADC Chairman-elect, Azeez Adesiji, said the party remained united and fully structured despite political challenges ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

Adesiji expressed confidence that the ADC will secure victory through grassroots mobilization, cohesion and support, revealing plans for a state-level campaign that will begin within a week.

According to him, the campaign will cover all local government areas, with demonstrations in the nine federal constituencies and two mega events planned in Ile-Ife and Osogbo.

Party stakeholders present at the meeting also reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the success of the ADC in the next poll.
