ASAC 2026: Nigerian team wins gold and silver in women’s and men’s 4x100m relay

The quartet of Rosemary Nwankwo, Obi Jennifer Chukwuka, Rosemary Chukwuma and Miracle Ezechukwu recorded a time of 42.94 seconds to win gold and defend their title at the African Athletics Championships being held in Accra, Ghana.

The Nigerian team beat second-place Liberia and hosts Ghana, who finished third, in Friday’s final.

They set a new record by becoming the first team to go under 43 in the history of the women’s 4x100m at the African Athletics Championships.

Also on Friday, the Nigerian men’s quartet of Favor Ashe, James Taiwo Emmanuel, Tejiri Godwin and Chidera Ezeakor claimed the silver medal with a time of 38.70s in the 4x100m final.

The race was won by Ivory Coast, while Ghana had to settle for the bronze medal.
