ASUU urges FG to implement agreements to avoid strike

The Yola Area Universities Academic Staff Union (ASUU) has urged the federal and state governments to urgently implement all agreements made with the union to save the country’s universities from another disruption to academic activities.
The zone comprising Adamawa Mubi State University (ADSU), Borno State University, Gashua Yobe State Federal University, Madibbo Adama University (MAU) Yola, Taraba State University (TSU) Jalingo, Maiduguri University (Unimaid) and Yobe State University (YSU) Damaturu gave this warning at a press conference in Yola.

Speaking at a press conference in Yola on Monday, the zonal coordinator of ASUU, Comrade Dani Mamman, expressed serious concern over the continued deterioration of the Nigerian university system and the government’s refusal to implement the agreement it made with the union, stressing that the union is running out of patience.

He noted that they have approached the relevant authorities several times without any positive results.
The President further listed some of the issues including failure to implement the FG-ASUU Negotiated Agreement of 2025, refusal to implement Consolidated Academic Facility Allowance (CATA), achievement of Academic Allowance (EAA) in Adamawa State University, Borno State University, Taraba State University and Yobe State University among other issues including failure to give the university system deserves attention.
According to him, these are not sudden demands or unreasonable demands, but are matters that have been discussed, negotiated, documented and repeatedly brought before the government through various engagements.
ASUU further maintains that a negotiated agreement is not a decoration or a political public relations statement, but a binding commitment

The Union further added that the government’s continued failure to implement the FG-ASUU Agreement of 2025, among other issues, demonstrates a deep disregard for the principle of collective bargaining and shows a lack of seriousness of the government regarding the survival of public universities in the country.
