Shehu Yahaya Jalam, Permanent Secretary for Special Services in Bauchi State Government, has died in Mecca, Saudi Arabia during the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
Jalam died in the early hours of Sunday after a short illness, according to a statement by Governor Bala Mohammed’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado.
The deceased, who bore the traditional title of Turakin Dawakin Misau, was part of the Bauchi State contingent for this year’s Hajj when he fell ill.
The state government described the news as a moment of deep sorrow. Gidado said Jalam was a “devoted, loyal and hardworking public servant who dedicated his life and energies to the service of Bauchi State”, highlighting his role in coordinating past Hajj operations and other government duties.
Funeral prayers were held on Sunday after Zuhr prayers at the Holy Ka’aba Mosque in Mecca.
Governor Mohammed expressed his condolences to the family, the offices of the Secretary to the State Government and the Head of Civil Service and the councils of the Misau and Dambam Emirates.
He prayed to God to forgive Jalam’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
