Boko Haram attacks military base, killing 5 soldiers in Borno

Boko Haram terrorists on Friday morning attacked the Nigerian Army base at Mandaragirau in Biu Local Government Area of ​​Borno State and killed eight people.

The victims were five soldiers and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force.

Acting Media Information Officer Joint Task Force Headquarters (North East), HADIN KAI Operations, Lt Col Haruna Sani, confirmed the incident in his statement in Maiduguri.

He said the gallant troops resisted the attack despite adverse weather conditions and poor visibility due to heavy rain.

Sani said: “Mandaragirau Forward Operating Base (FOB) troops under Brigade 25 Sector 2, Operation HADIN KAI, successfully resisted a terrorist attack in the early hours of this morning despite poor weather conditions and poor visibility caused by a heavy rainstorm.

“The terrorists launched the attack at around 03.00 and attempted to breach the FOB section in extreme weather conditions.

“Determined troops responded with a fierce counterattack, decisively thwarting further attacks and inflicting casualties on the attackers. This counterattack underscores the resilience of the troops at FOB Mandaragirau and reflects the courage and resolve of our troops throughout the battle area.

“Unfortunately, during the course of the battle, five brave soldiers paid a heavy price during the intense firefights and close combat, while some equipment was also affected by the crossfire.”
