Bovi and Nomzamo Mbatha recreate viral Funke Akindele, Toyin Abraham ‘tackled’ at AMVCA 2026

The 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in Lagos on Saturday witnessed a funny moment when comedian Bovi Ugboma and South African actress Nomzamo Mbatha recreated a viral incident involving Nollywood stars Funke Akindele and Toyin Abraham.

During the hosting segment of the ceremony held at the 2026 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards in Lagos, the duo performed a playful skit that referenced the widely discussed “snub” moment that was trending online after a movie premiere.

In the reenactment, Mbatha played Akindele while Bovi played Abraham, joking about the incident in a lighthearted exchange that brought laughter from the audience. Bovi joked: “Aunt Funke… mtcheeww. If I ever present you with an award, call me a bastard,” sparking reactions from guests on site.

The original controversy arose from a viral clip recorded at the premiere of Arinzo’s Return, in which Abraham was seen greeting her colleagues before approaching Akindele, who didn’t appear to recognize her at the time.

The moment triggered a heated debate on social media about unity within Nollywood.

The incident was previously reported by Vanguard News, which noted that the clip has reignited conversations about relationships among major Nigerian movie stars.

The AMVCA ceremony continues at the iconic Eko Hotel and Suites, with winners announced in multiple categories.
