Brazil was eliminated from the 2026 World Cup after losing to Norway

Five-time champions Brazil were knocked out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing 2-1 to Norway in their last-16 encounter on Sunday night.

In an entertaining match in New Jersey, Norwegian midfielder Patrick Berg managed to score in the fourth minute, but his celebrations were cut short when Alexander Sorloth was flagged for offside.

Erling Haaland scored twice for Norway to stun the favorites as the Brazilians fell short of their goal of winning a sixth World Cup.

The Manchester City striker has now equaled Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi with a mammoth seven goals in the tournament, topping the Golden Boot standings.

Neymar scored a consolation penalty in second-half stoppage time. Bruno Guimaraes saw a penalty awarded by VAR saved early in the first half.

In the quarter-finals, Norway will face England or co-hosts Mexico, who will meet in the round of 16 in Mexico City Monday morning.
