Campaign against vandalism: TCN involves the young people of Ahoda East/West LGA

AHOADA (Core reporter) In the field of efforts to strengthen safety around power structures, the Nigeria transmission company (TCN) has organized a one -day awareness program for Ahoda East and Ahoda West the young people aimed at educating them on the “role of young people of the community in the fight against the vandism of the electrical structures that cross their communities”.

The One Day program was held on Thursday 15 May 2025, the Civic Center IGBU EHUDA-AHOADA attracted over a hundred young people of 19 communities who participated in the event.

In his address, the general manager Port Harcourt Region, Engr. Akpa Emmanuel Anyaegbunam stressed the importance of young people in the fight against vandalism. He mentioned the prolonged interruption in the state of Bayelsa due to the vandalism of the Tcn towers along the Ahoda/Yenagoa transmission line, which led to 20 towers vandalized in July last year.

Engr. Anyaegbunam has urged young people to take responsibility for safeguarding power installations in their communities. He observed that all the vandals arrested so far are young people and have underlined the need for collective action to prevent vandalism. He also suggested TCN’s plans to involve more vigilant among the inhabitants of the village to help guarantee TCN installations.

The program included an interactive session in which the representatives of young people and the presidents of the community development committee of various communities took turns to ask questions and commit themselves to their support for the cause of TCN. Mr. Isaiah Sunday, a youth leader, suggested that surveillance was the key to preventing vandalism and proposed that Tcn considers to employ the young people of the community to help guarantee the lines.

Benjamin Emmanuel, another youth leader, observed that some vandals do not come from local communities and have underlined the need for a rapid persecution of arrested vandals. He suggested that the advertising of the judicial process would have been a cleansing for the potential vandals. Young people also suggested that the leaders of the community and young people should be fully involved in the protection of TCN structures.

TCN’s commitment with the young people of Ahoda East and Ahoda West demonstrates the company’s commitment to collaborate with local communities to prevent vandalism and guarantee the reliability of the nutrition. Working together, Tcn and young premises can help safeguard power infrastructures and promote economic development in the region.
