Chika FC becomes latest attraction for football talent search in Owerri

Suddenly, the ideal place to look for untapped football talents in Owerri, Imo State, has become Chika FC, Sports247 reports.

Unlike in the past, when the Old Stadium in the heart of the city dominated in terms of central focus for grassroots football, the place to be now is Chika FC’s training base at Orji Primary School.

The move to the rusty area of Owerri known as Orji is mainly due to the search for raw young players, in contrast to the past search for boys who would quickly fit into the structure of Nigerian league clubs at all levels.

Leading the new charge is a former player and youth motivator, Chika Uba, who is the founder and coach of the club, as well as the quarterback leading a new wave of grassroots development in the round leather game.

His efforts are already bearing fruit, as football scouts continue to regularly turn up at his team’s training base, while strong indications have also emerged that some of his charges will soon receive invitations to the under-15 and under-17 national teams.

“We’re happy with how things are going and the impact we’re making,” said Coach Chika, looking sour in sports shorts, “but that doesn’t mean we’re making fun of the other teams.

“We are doing our best to prepare these young players as best we can. There are many of them here, and we thank God that we are starting to attract the attention of youth football experts in Imo State and beyond.”
