Colored glass permit policy to defend themselves from the police – Thage

By Victor Osula, Abuja

Nigeria’s police forces have rejected criticisms of its colorful glass authorization policy, insisting on the fact that the regime is legal, transparent and constitutionally valid.

Forcing the head of public relations, the CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, in a declaration on Wednesday, described the recent statements by individuals and groups that question politics as “false and misleading”, adding that they were aimed at discrediting the legitimate police image and operations.

Citing Section 2 (3A) of the motor vehicles law (Tinted Glass prohibition), 2004, Hundeyin explained that the law authorizes the police inspector, or any authorized person, to approve the permits.

He also observed that section 1 (2) of the law requires candidates to show valid reasons – for health or safety reasons, before approval can be granted.

“The essence of the regulation aligns with our main mandate of crime prevention, since permission is a critical tool for dealing with the kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism and operations of a case,” said Hundeyin.

Responding to a case presented by the Nigerian lawyers’ association against the police inspector on politics, Hundeyin clarified that the accusations related to obtaining the permit are the processing commissions intended to support digital infrastructures in support of the service.

He added that this was in line with section 26 (e) and (f) of the Nigeria Police Act, 2020, which allows the police to provide specialized services to the paid public.

He also highlighted the successes of the central electronic motor register (E-CMR), noting that it has allowed the recovery of numerous vehicles stolen nationally.

The police inspector general, Kayode Egbetokun, in the meantime, has reiterated the commitment of the force for the professionalism, transparency and protection of citizens’ rights.

He assured the Nigerians that the police are dedicated to the construction of a safer and more secure nation.
