Confirmed: Chelle makes four changes to Super Eagles squad for AFCON qualifiers

Nigeria senior team head coach Eric Chelle has made recent changes to the Nigeria senior team squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers in September, OwnGoalNigeria.com can exclusively reveal.

Nigeria will participate in the AFCON 2027 qualifiers by opening their campaign at home against Madagascar on the 25th, before traveling to meet Guinea-Bissau in Morocco four days later.

Chelle’s roster was originally due to be released on Monday, but it was postponed until later in the week as the coach made some injury-forced changes while awaiting the fitness of some of the players on his roster.

As we exclusively reported a while ago, New England Revolution midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been ruled out of matches with a tendon injury, as has newly capped winger Femi Azeez, who has not made his debut for his new team Brighton due to a muscle problem.

Another midfielder, Fisayo Dele-Bashiru of Lazio, is also ruled out of the game, as is Francis Onyeka, although they are awaiting an examination to determine the severity of the injury he suffered during Coventry’s match against Brighton.

Sources say the coach also opened the door for striker Victor Osimhen to miss matches, following talks with Galatasary about the need to allow the 27-year-old to recover properly.

Furthermore, some players who were in the squad for the friendly against Russia will now move to the main squad for the AFCON qualifiers, while Zadok Yohanna, who is in the squad, will also be replaced.
