Dangote refinery blames NNPCL for N898/litre price claim

Dangote Refinery has denied claims that it sold premium motor spirit (PMS) to Nigerian National Petroleum Company Ltd NNPCL at N898/litre, describing it as misleading and dangerous.

The denial was contained in a statement uploaded on the X platform by Anthony Chiejina, the conglomerate’s Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

Earlier reports had emerged that the state oil company which started lifting petrol from its 650,000 barrels per day refinery today purchased the product at N898/litre.

Responding to this, Chiejina stated that, β€œOur attention has been drawn to a statement attributed to the spokesperson of NNPCL, Mr. Olufemi Soneye, that we sell our PMS at N898 per litre to NNPCL.

β€œThis statement is misleading and baseless, deliberately aimed at undermining the important achievements recorded today, September 15, 2024, in addressing energy shortages and insecurity, which have plagued the economy for the past 50 years.

β€œWe urge Nigerians to disregard these malicious statements and await the official announcement on prices, by the Technical Subcommittee on the sale of Naira-based crude oil to local refineries, appointed by His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, which will commence on October 1, 2024, considering that our current crude oil stock is procured in dollars.

“It is also worth noting that we are selling the product to NNPCL in dollars at a huge saving compared to what they are currently importing. With this move, there will be petrol in every local government area of the country irrespective of its remoteness.

β€œWe ensure the availability of quality petroleum products to Nigerians and end the endemic fuel scarcity in the country,” he said.
