Babcock to host innovation summit and unveil plan for ‘Nigeria’s Silicon Valley’

Babcock University has announced plans to host a two-day innovation initiatives summit aimed at galvanizing stakeholders across sectors and unveiling an ambitious blueprint to position Nigeria as a global technology hub.

The summit, scheduled for April 21 and 22 on the university campus, is expected to bring together government officials, business leaders, academics, investors and innovators to deliberate on the future of technology, artificial intelligence and digital transformation in the country.

At the heart of the event is the proposal to create a world-class innovation hub within the institution, an initiative the university has described as key to boosting Nigeria’s competitiveness in the rapidly evolving global digital economy.

In a statement released Saturday, the university said the summit will serve as a “call to action” for interested parties to collaborate in building a robust ecosystem that supports research, innovation and business development.

He noted that the proposed hub would function as a platform for startup incubation, industrial partnerships and commercialization of ideas, while promoting synergy between academia and the private sector.

“The global economy is being reshaped by innovation and artificial intelligence. Nations that fail to act decisively risk being left behind,” the statement read.

“This summit is designed to mobilize the ideas, partnerships and investments needed to secure Nigeria’s place in that future.”

Organizers added that the initiative aims to leverage the country’s young population and expand the digital landscape by creating opportunities for talent development and technological advancement.

A coordinator at the summit said the project aims to unlock Nigeria’s innovation potential through a structured and collaborative ecosystem capable of producing globally competitive solutions.

Activities planned for the summit include keynote speeches, panel discussions, live demonstrations and strategy sessions focusing on emerging technologies, policy frameworks and investment opportunities.

The university called on public and private sector stakeholders, development partners and investors to support the initiative through partnerships, funding, technical expertise and policy support.

He added that the summit will also provide a platform for participants to explore avenues of collaboration and mobilization of resources required to actualize the proposed innovation hub.

The institution expressed optimism that the event would attract national and international attention, placing both the university and Nigeria at the forefront of the conversation on innovation in Africa.

“The future will not wait, and neither should Nigeria,” the statement adds, urging stakeholders to actively participate in shaping the country’s technological progress.
