EFCC arrests fake lawyer over fake NBA stamps in Lagos

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a suspected fake lawyer over the alleged use of a fake seal of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos.

The EFCC confirmed this in a statement posted on the X account @officialEFCC on Tuesday.

The commission said the suspect was arrested on Monday, following an investigation into allegations of impersonation and forgery.

“The suspect, who runs a legal and educational consultancy business in Ikorodu area, Lagos, came to the attention of the commission after filing a petition dated September 22, 2025 on behalf of his clients.

“The petition is against the management of Global West Vessel Specialist Nigeria Limited.

“Further investigation revealed that the petition and subsequent recall letter dated March 5 had a fake NBA stamp,” the statement read.

The commission said the suspect admitted to obtaining the fake seals from an undisclosed business center in Lagos.

“Upon interrogation, he (the suspect) admitted to obtaining a law degree from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka in 2018 through evening classes but did not attend the Nigerian Law School, which is a mandatory requirement to practice law in Nigeria,” he said.

According to the EFCC, the suspect will be charged to court at the end of the investigation.
