Member of Borno Rep, Balami promises support, alignment with APC leadership, State Development Plan – THISAGE

The lawmaker representing Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency, Hon. Dr. Midala Usman Balami, yesterday held a strategy meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development, growth of the party and effective representation of its constituents.

Dr Balami noted that his campaign projects and interventions are deliberately aligned with Babagana Umara Zulum’s long-term development vision and the state’s 25-year development framework, particularly in the sectors of education, health, infrastructure, agriculture and humanitarian support.

During the meeting which took place at the APC State Secretariat in Maiduguri, Dr Balami announced financial support of twenty million naira to strengthen the party’s activities and structure within the constituency.

He said the gesture was part of his responsibilities “to support the party’s organization and grassroots mobilization efforts.”

He assured party leaders of his commitment to the success of the APC in Askira-Uba and Hawul, stressing that service to the people remains his top priority.

The first-time MP also highlighted his legislative footprint in the National Assembly, noting that he has so far sponsored 10 people-oriented bills and tabled fourteen motions that address the critical needs of his constituency and the nation.

Some notable initiatives he added include: “HB 279 (2023) – Establishment of a Federal College of Health Science and Technology, Askira-Uba – to expand access to health education.

“HB 280 (2023): Establishment of a Federal College of Nursing and Midwifery, Hawul, to strengthen the health workforce and reduce maternal and infant mortality.

“HB 1797 (2024): Federal College of Entrepreneurship and Skills Acquisition, Hawul – to promote youth empowerment and job creation, an HB 1798 (2024): Federal College of Fisheries and Apiculture, Askira-Uba – to enhance food security and agricultural development.”

Dr Balami also sponsored motions on the need to prevent killings and implement urgent security measures in Sabon Gari, Kelle, Dille, Lassa and Mussa towns of Askira-Uba and Hawul Local Government Areas of Borno State, purposefully to address intermittent attacks, killings and destruction of lives and properties.

Another motion was on the need to address the challenges faced by students writing JAMB, WAEC/SSCE in Mussa, Dille and Lassa communities of Askira-Uba LGA, Borno State.

This aims to ensure safe examination environments and collaboration with security agencies for affected students.

Also, a motion for the establishment of a vocational and sports center in Askira-Uba and Hawul local government areas, to promote youth empowerment, skill development and community engagement through sports and training, and the need for urgent rehabilitation of the Biu-Garkida-Gombi road

In Askira-Uba/Hawul federal constituency, Borno State and several others have been downsized by the legislature.

Earlier, the APC Chairman, Hon. Handsome Ayuba, commended Midala Usman Balami for what he described as exceptional representation, stressing that the party had closely followed his impactful work even before his formal defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Party leaders at the meeting praised Dr Balami’s track record, describing his defection and support as a major boost to the APC’s strength and reach in the constituency and beyond, given its vibrant influence across the state.

They expressed confidence that his experience, projects and legislative contributions would further boost the party’s presence and performance in Askira-Uba/Hawul.

Present at the meeting were the vice president of the State, Alh. Garba Mulima; Secretary of State, Barr. Mustafa Loskuri; Assistant Secretary, Alh. Musa Dogo; Central Zonal President, Alh. Abdul Kareem Abdulrahman; North Zonal President, Alh. Mustafa Gadobe; and state women’s leader, Haj. Zara Mohammed.

Others were women’s deputy leaders, Haj. Rakiya Galadima; Organizational Secretary, Alh. Tukur Shani; State Legal Counsel, Barr. Babashehu Fang; Publicity Secretary, Alh. Ibrahim Mamman; State Treasurer, Alh. Goni Abatcha Kadai; Welfare Officer, Mallam Bulin; Financial Secretary, Alh. Mohammed Bulama; and youth leader, Abdulrahman Musa.
