Super Falcons interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen believes his team deserved their 2-0 victory over the Comoros in the first leg of their second-round qualifier for the 2028 Olympics.
The ten-time African champions were victorious thanks to second-half goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu.
However, Eguavoen admitted he was nervous at half-time after the two teams went into the break goalless, despite Nigeria’s dominance in the first 45 minutes.
“I was nervous at the beginning because it’s an away game. A draw away from home would be good, but because of our pedigree and the quality we have, forget the names of the countries, we play them with the utmost respect, but the sterile 0-0 score in the first half was worrying,” Eguavoen said during the post-match briefing.

The coach, however, was confident that the goals would eventually come, insisting that his team had controlled the match from the beginning.
“I knew that at some point we would score. It was only a matter of time because we dominated from the beginning to the end of the first half.
“They gave us a good fight, but we showed our superiority,” he added.
The Super Falcons will now look to build on their two-goal lead when they host the Comoros in the second leg at the Remo Stars Sports Complex, Ikenne, next Tuesday.
