The opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) party has rejected the results of Saturday’s gubernatorial election held in Ekiti State and won by incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
Even the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stated that it was still studying the results, and would react at the appropriate time.
ADC gubernatorial candidate, Dare Bejide, while talking to journalists on Sunday, said, “My immediate reaction was to reject the election results in their entirety, because in my opinion, the actions taken on Saturday were not credible.”
The ADC candidate, who said that the atmosphere at his polling station was like a war zone, said, “Vote buying was done openly, bags of money were brought to the polling station, and from what we collected, the funds spent were very large.
“Regarding our next actions, I personally have not seen the full results; I have only heard reports from social media. We are currently collecting results from units and wards. We will brief our party members and decide on appropriate actions.”
Ekiti State PDP Chairman, Tunji Odeyemi, said the party was still studying the election report to determine its next course of action, and that the party would reveal its position on the election in due course.

Odeyemi, the former acting governor, said, “We are studying the situation. A study in the sense that if elections are conducted like this, there will be reports from various units and wards.
“We are collecting the results, we will study them and issue our position as a party. That is what we are doing now.
“Elections are a process. We will organize many things so that it becomes a process. We will study the results and products of that process. The party’s position will depend on what we get after studying these reports.
“We sent our people to the field – agents and party leaders across the state, and they have started submitting reports. We will study them and take a stand,” Odeyemi said.
However, the party’s National Secretariat expressed disappointment with the election results, and described the results as not good enough for the party.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Mohammed Junudo, told journalists that the results fell short of the party’s expectations.
Responding to the election results, a PDP spokesperson said that the party did not anticipate the results, and stated that the party would determine its next course of action after conducting a thorough review of the entire election process.
He stated, “The results announced by INEC are something that is not good for the party to hear, but we have to wait until we get a proper report from our monitoring team, as well as from the Ekiti State chapter of the party, before we can really take a proper position.
“Until we get a proper report from the monitoring team and the Ekiti State PDP branch, a formal position cannot be taken. This is a sad outcome. This is not something we really expected.”
