The Kaduna State High Court, sitting in Kaduna, has postponed the hearing of a bail application filed by former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai to the first week of June 2026.
The update was announced on Tuesday by Justice Darius Khobo, who is presiding over the case involving allegations of financial misconduct and abuse of office brought against the former governor by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC).
Following the proceedings, el-Rufai’s lawyer, Ukpon Akpan, criticized repeated delays in considering the bail application, saying the postponement appeared politically motivated.
Journalists were again barred from entering the courtroom, as the hearing focused on arguments from both the prosecution and defense regarding the bail application.
At the previous hearing, the defense argued that el-Rufai is not a flight risk and is ready to comply with any conditions imposed by the court.
However, prosecutors urged the court to consider the seriousness of the charges before granting bail.
