FCCPC ending from $ 220 million: WhatsApp applies to the order of stay, appeal sentence


The messaging platform, WhatsApp, on Saturday, said that he was requesting a stay of execution of the sentence by the Court for the competition and the protection of consumers in favor of the Federal Commission for competition and the protection of consumers.

The organization said it in a statement sent to the Nigeria news agency on Saturday in the state of Lagos.

He said he would urgently apply to remain the order and appeal to the sentence of the Nigerian competition and the court for the protection of consumers.

Nan reports that the reaction of Whatsapp followed the decision of the Court on Friday, which confirmed the penalty of $ 220 million initially imposed by the Federal Commission for competition and the protection of consumers.

The Court has ordered WhatsApp and his mother -in -law, Meta Platforms incorporated, to pay a significant sanction of $ 220 million, together with other $ 35,000 at the FCCPC.

The FCCPC had met the fine against WhatsApp and a destination for alleged practices of discriminatory data within Nigeria.

The Court also imposed a payment of $ 35,000 to the Commission as a refund for the expenses incurred during its investigations on the conglomerate of social media.

In addition, the Court rejected the appeal presented by WhatsApp and the platform meta incorporate by challenging the penalty of 220 million dollars.

“We are urgently applying to remain the order and appeal to today’s decision to avoid any impact for users,” said WhatsApp.

The company also underlined its disagreement with the Court’s Order, noting that the FCCPC order contained multiple inaccuracies and misrepresented as WhatsApp worked.

Declaring his position, the conglomerate of social media said: “Whatsapp is based on limited data to perform their service and protect users and it will be impossible to provide WhatsApp in Nigeria or global level, without the infrastructure of our parent company, destination”.
