Retired Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, former General Officer Commanding of the First Division of the Nigerian Army, has been appointed as the Chairman of the District 9 Marked Residences Comprehensive Security Leadership Council.

The appointment is part of the hospitality company’s efforts to strengthen its security architecture, corporate governance and professional oversight as it builds its business.

District 9 Branded Residences President Kunle Ilori-Diamond announced the appointment in a personally signed statement on Friday.

Ilori-Diamond said the decision underlines the company’s commitment to making safety a central pillar of its operations, particularly in the hospitality industry, where the safety of guests, staff and facilities remains a key concern.

He explained that structured governance and professional oversight had been integral to the management of his business interests in real estate, investment banking and construction.

According to him, his businesses operate through boards of directors and executive councils composed of experienced professionals and trusted mentors who provide strategic guidance and carefully review important decisions.

“One thing you can’t take away from any of my businesses is structure.

“I don’t run my real estate business alone; I have a functioning board of directors that recommends, approves and rejects some of my decisions. I have an executive board for each of my businesses,” he said.

The District 9 president said the same governance principle will guide the hospitality company, starting with the establishment of the Global Security Leadership Council.

“We are starting a hospitality business and we are starting with the District 9 Brand Residences Global Security Leadership Council. Security, when it comes to hospitality, is a serious issue and we need to pay close attention to it,” Ilori-Diamond said.

Oyebade brings with him decades of military leadership, operational experience and strategic security expertise.

He previously served as the General Officer Commanding the First Division of the Nigerian Army, based in Kaduna, with responsibility for military operations in the North-West Region.

He later served as commandant of the Nigerian Defense Academy, one of the country’s premier military training institutions.

Throughout his military career, Oyebade has held command responsibilities covering internal security operations, anti-banditry campaigns and counter-insurgency efforts.

His tenure as GOC of the 1st Division also coincided with the December 2015 clash between the Nigerian Army and members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria in Zaria, Kaduna State.

Earlier in his career, the retired general participated in multinational peacekeeping operations in West Africa, including deployments under the Monitoring Group of the Economic Community of West African States during conflicts in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

District 9 Branded Residences said Oyebade’s appointment is expected to support the development of a robust security framework for its hospitality operations, drawing on his experience in military command, strategic planning and security management.

The company is seeking to establish a governance structure that places security considerations at the center of its operational planning as it grows its hospitality business.

Beyond his professional qualifications, Ilori-Diamond described the appointment as a personal milestone, describing the retired general as a mentor and father figure whose influence extends beyond business.

Expressing appreciation for Oyebade’s acceptance of the role, he said: “Above all, he is like a father to me.”

He added: “General Oyebade, thank you, papa mi, for agreeing to chair the District 9 GSGAC. I am happy to make you proud, always!”
