Former Governor Shekarau has emerged as the APC consensus senatorial candidate in Kano Central

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has resolved the long-standing dispute over the Kano Central Senatorial ticket

The development paved the way for the emergence of former governor of the state, Ibrahim Shekarau, as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the district.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday in Kano.

He said the breakthrough followed a high-level reconciliation meeting convened by Yusuf in Abuja, where all aspirants and key stakeholders agreed to unite in the interest of unity, progress and political future of Kano State.

“After Yusuf’s intervention, eight aspirants voluntarily withdrew their ambitions and endorsed Shekarau as the consensus flag bearer for Kano Central under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Kano Central, considered the largest senatorial district in Nigeria, comprises 15 local government areas with an estimated population of over 10 million people,” the CPS said.

The consensus agreement is seen as a major political milestone that has broad implications for the democratic process of the state and nation.

Yusuf praised the aspiring leaders for putting the collective interests of the people above personal ambitions, and described their decisions as a brave demonstration of maturity, sacrifice and commitment to strengthening democratic values.
He reiterated his administration’s determination to continue to promote dialogue, inclusion and consensus building as important tools for political stability and sustainable development.
