The whistle never blew for the last time. He simply stopped.

Michael Eneramo, the powerful striker who once proudly wore Nigeria’s green and white shirt, collapsed during training in Kaduna on Friday morning. He was 40 years old.

Teammates rushed to him. Hands felt his chest. Prayers went up on the pitch. But this was a battle the great man would not win.

According to SCORENigeria, desperate attempts to resuscitate him failed. Just like that, the roar of the stadium gave way to silence.

Eneramo earned 10 Super Eagles caps and scored three goals for his country. But to fans, it was more than just statistics. It was power. It was presence. The boy from Lobi Stars who dared to dream beyond the NPFL and conquered Tunisia with Espérance, lifting trophies and breaking hearts.

Turkey has become his second home. From Sivasspor to Beşiktaş, from Karabükspor to Istanbul Başakşehir and Manisaspor, he has bullied defenders for over a decade, chanting his name in stadiums far from Jos.

Now the boots are empty. The Kaduna field, where he fell, retains only echoes.

He leaves behind memories of thunderous headers, tireless runs and a smile that lit up the pitch.

He leaves behind his companions who called him brother. He leaves behind a nation that once cheered his name.

Michael Eneramo was a striker until the end.
