In response to President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s initiative to reduce interstate transport fares by 50% and offer free train rides during the festive season, God Is Good (GIG) Mobility has pledged its support for the program.
In an official statement, GIG Mobility made available to newsupdate247.ng expressed its commitment to the Presidential Transport Relief Initiative Program, assuring a 50% fare refund on specified routes and terminals from December 21st onward.
The company emphasized its dedication to corporate social responsibility.
The federal government’s transport relief initiative, announced on December 21, encompasses 28 bus routes across states like Lagos, Rivers, Oyo, Sokoto, Gombe, Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Plateau, and Anambra, lasting from December 21, 2023, to January 4, 2024. This initiative, part of several recent palliatives by the government, aims to ease the financial burden on citizens during the holiday season.
Dele Alake, the Committee Chairman for Presidential Interventions, disclosed that the federal government collaborated with major transport companies and the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW). The partnering companies include God is Good Motors, Chisco Transport, Young Shall Grow, God Bless Ezenwata, and Area Motors.
While the intention behind the 50% fare reduction is to provide relief to travelers, concerns have emerged about the implementation’s transparency. This initiative marks the sixth federal government palliative in the last eight months, prompting scrutiny into its effectiveness and equitable distribution.
