Grace Ike assigns journalists on regular physical exercise to keep fit
… while Nuj Fct begins the monthly physical form
Abuja (Core reporter) The President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (Nuj), FCT Council, Ms. Grace Ike has urged the members of the Council to embrace exercise to keep fit and be more productive.
Grace made the call to the inaugural monthly exercise of the Council to the Council Secretariat on Saturday 31 May 2025 in Abuja.
He also recommended journalists to commit themselves regularly in controlling their vital to remain physically and mentally vigilant to download their responsibilities towards the company.
“Most of us have joint pains because we have not done exercise. You just do a field job. You are sitting or just writing or are just doing one thing or another”
“Find that time to go out to be fit, even if you can’t come to the advice, please find a routine exercise to do and do it inside our community.
“Wherever you are or when you have to go out daily, mantle you fit, make that exercise. You walk on health and then try to control yourself. Check the blood pressure, know what you are going through. Not all those you see, is strong or fit.
“With this exercise, we know those who will find problems as if you were strong or not.
“This is the first of its kind in the history of Nuj FCT and the idea is to continue to bring together everyone for social events”
“I am happy that the press week is coming. We will have a team of doctors from the Nizamiye hospital in Abuja to also carry out medical checks for our members,” he said.
Grace described the monthly exercise, before its kind in the Council, as part of the new reasons that its administration has promised to break.
He urged the members of the Council to embrace the monthly exercise, every last Saturday of the month, as a way to increase their health system.
He said that while the union was pursuing health insurance for its members, they also had to do exercises to keep fit.
“So, Nuj Fct is preparing the rhythm for journalists to be fit so that they can chase that news and be healthy.
“I know you were watching from behind. Most of the exercises we were asked to do, we were finding difficult because we didn’t do it.
“So we need to keep us in shape because health, they say it is wealth. So for us, it is time for us to regain that energy.
“We want to be fit, to be able to chase that story, go to the field, to have that noise for the news,” said Grace.
A member of the Nuj Sport Planning Committee, Nkechi Onyneke, described the exercise as a key for a healthy life, saying “if you are in shape, you are healthy”.
Onyeneke advised FCT journalists to embrace and participate in the initiative, observing that the exercise would be a continuous thing.
“As a journalist in FCT, if you are not here, you miss a lot. Try to do it next time, because we are trying to keep fit,” he said.
Princess Halima Jbrin of the correspondent chapel described the initiative as a milestone achieved by the current Nuj FCT leadership that should not be supported, but also be proposed to other tips to be adopted.
“I also think IKE should take it to NEC, so that each chapter of Nuj all the country should adopt it so that they are fit.
“It is not enough to stay behind the camera, behind the screen, always without knowing that health is wealth. Leave us fit and be healthy.
“Health, they say, is wealth. It doesn’t matter who you are, if you are not fit, you will not be able to enjoy what you have earned,” said Jibrin.
The former president Nuj FCT corresponding chapel, Raphael Ekpang also participated in the exercise while Grace Ike led Nuj FCT he led ExCo for starting a good note.
He urged the members who failed to reach an inaugural edition of Monthly Fitness to try to join the subsequent editions, adding that exercise is good for the body and mental supervision considering the work we do as journalists.
