Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, Peter Obi, says he may no longer be able to contest the polls, as he is allegedly frustrated by the government.
Obi spoke during an interview on With Chude, hosted by media personality Chude Jideonwo and posted on X on Wednesday.
The former governor of Anambra State claimed that the government not only frustrated him with his activities, but also targeted other opposition figures.
In 2027, Obi said, “I might not even be alive. I’m telling you. Every single thing I do to make a living, this government is frustrating. On purpose. Everything. So, there’s even a possibility, if they have a chance, that I won’t be alive.”

However, he clarified that he was not making direct accusations but describing daily experiences of being stymied.
“That’s not an accusation. I know. I feel frustrated every day. Because you do things that you think are normal—they’re not normal anymore.
“They won’t come in person and say, ‘Oh, we’re doing this,’ but you can see their involvement in almost everything,” Obi said.
When asked whether the government attacked him personally, the former governor of Anambra State said the alleged treatment was also directed at members of the opposition.
“They attacked everyone in the opposition personally. I was attacked personally. Everything. Even for giving me important things that should be my right, not at all,” he said.
Obi gave an example of an incident at the airport where he admitted that officers locked his car even though there were other vehicles parked in the same area.
“I recently had a case at the airport, where the guy who works at the airport came and locked my car. And I said, ‘It’s me.’ The person in charge said he didn’t care.
“But I said, ‘Look at other people’s cars.’ And you could see them talking to each other, like, ‘Who is this guy?’”
He further alleged that some people now avoid associating with him in public for fear of being targeted.
“And I see people I know at the airport, they won’t greet me because they’re afraid if they greet me…”
The former Labor Party presidential candidate also admitted that there were some supporters who prohibited him from attending family events.
“And there were people who sent me invitations and said, ‘My son, my daughter is getting married, but please don’t come,’” he said.
