I will take over as governor of Niger State in 2027, boasts PDP candidate Nami

The newly established 2027 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State, Mohammad Mamman Nami, has vowed to fight for power against the All Progressives Congress (APC), the administration led by Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, in the forthcoming general elections.

Nami spoke for the first time over the weekend after being confirmed by the PDP on Friday as its governorship candidate, replacing Arch. Abubakar Suleiman who voluntarily resigned from the competition.

While confirming his entry into the gubernatorial race, Nami, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS), explained that by emerging as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the 2027 elections, he has now been offered the position to compete against the incumbent Governor Bago and wrest power from him.

The 2027 PDP governorship candidate, among the aspirants aggrieved over the conduct of the APC senatorial primaries in Southern Niger, also known as Zone A, has explained that he and his colleagues took the decision to dump the APC after the party failed to right the wrong done to the people of the area during its primaries.

He said: “Yes, I am contesting the governorship election in 2027. During our meeting with the APC zonal executive last month, we assured them that if they are unable to right the wrong they have done to the people of Niger State, especially the people of Zone A on May 18, surely one of us will contest the gubernatorial seat against the present administration of the state.”

Nami said the aggrieved senatorial aspirants also made it clear to the zonal executive that “we will support and sponsor one of us for the zonal A senatorial district. This has now become a reality.”

According to him, “the assurance given and the statement further confirms that there will be someone who will contest and fight for power in Mohammed Umaru Bago in 2027.”

He said the PDP will convene a meeting in Minna this week where people will address the development to kick off the campaigns.

“Our job is to pray to God to impact our lives until that day and I will live long to see the day when I will fight for power against Mohammed Umaru Bago, who is definitely underperforming in Niger State,” he said.
