ICPC recovered N5.8 billion from criminals in 6 months

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offenses Commission (ICPC) says it has recovered N5.79 billion from the corrupt in the first half of 2026.

This was revealed by the Corruption Eradication Committee in its performance report released on Sunday.

The commission regrets how corruption continues to undermine Nigeria’s security architecture as resources meant for essential public services are diverted.

ICPC said, “Cash recovered within the review period amounted to N5,789,681,925.02.”

The commission said the reinstatement was part of broader efforts to safeguard public funds, strengthen institutional integrity and promote transparency across public institutions.

The anti-corruption body added that by safeguarding public funds and promoting transparency, they directly contribute to creating a more stable and secure environment for all Nigerians.

The report states, “In the face of Nigeria’s complex security challenges, corrupt practices remain an important factor causing instability, diverting critical resources from security infrastructure and eroding public trust.

“By safeguarding public funds, strengthening institutional integrity, and promoting transparency, ICPC directly contributes to creating a more stable and secure environment for all Nigerians.”

In addition to asset recovery, the commission said it received 271 petitions over a six-month period, while 234 cases were assigned to investigate.

He added that 25 cases had been filed in various courts, resulting in 20 convictions.

“ICPC received 271 petitions. Of the 234 cases submitted for investigation, 25 cases were successfully submitted to court, resulting in 20 guilty verdicts,” said ICPC.

According to ICPC, it also intensified corruption prevention efforts by conducting 33 system studies and corruption risk assessments, carrying out 42 corruption monitoring exercises and inaugurating 58 Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units in all ministries, departments and institutions.

The commission further stated that it expanded public enlightenment regarding anti-corruption through 291 outreach sessions and conferences, which reached 199,291 participants across the country.

They also established 68 Anti-Corruption Clubs as part of efforts to promote integrity among young Nigerians.
