The police inspector general, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the executive governor of the state of Bayelsa, senator Douye Diri, for having hosted a high -level state banquet in honor of the police superintendent (SP) sent Obi, recipient of the police manager of the year 2024 and the PGI Inward Award IGP Prize.
A statement of printing of the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said that the event, which took place on Tuesday in Yenagoa, symbolized a significant recognition of honor, courage and ethical excellence in the application of the law.
“SP Sentome Obi, a native of Bayelsa and head of the financial unit and computer crime at the Zone 16 Command, Yenagoa, has gained national applause following his refusal of a $ 17,000 bustarella to derail a sensitive investigation.
“Its position of principle, carried out under operational pressure, exemplifies the highest ethical police standards. In recognition of this unusual integrity, the governor Diri presented a brand new Corolla to SP Obi and a bungalow with three completely supplied bedrooms; an ethical reward in public service”, said FPRo.
He said that the IGP has praised the gesture as a sparty moment in the effort to institutionalize integrity within the Nigeria security architecture.
Olumuyiwa has observed that the public recognition of exemplary officers is a powerful tool not only to strengthen professional values within the strength, but also to restore the trust of the public in the police as a noble and honorable profession.
According to IGP, “this is more than a commendation, it is a cultural declaration. It tells every officer that integrity is not only expected but rewarded.
The spokesman revealed that “in line with this philosophy, the forces management team, under the guidance of the IGP, had previously had, during the meeting held on Monday, decided to recommend SP Obi, police officer of the year, 2024 and CSP Aliyu Shaba, the recipient of the 2023 police prize, for the promotion accelerated by the PSC (PSC).
“The team also approved the portrait of SP Obi and that of CSP
Aliyu Shaba must be shown prominently at the entrance of all the headquarters of the state and zonal command, the main entry of Louis Edet House (general strength quarter, Abuja) and the Hall of Fame of the Nigeria Police on the 7th floor of the headquarters of the force.
He said that further decisions reached include the adoption of a framework guided by the merit for the promotion, according to which any officer who won the police prize or received the prize for the IGP or other national commendation award, at least twice in the last two consecutive award cycles would be considered for the accelerated promotion.
“This political direction aims to incorporate the reward for performance as a sustainable feature of the development strategy of strength staff.
“These initiatives are part of a wider leadership commitment by the IGP to reposition Nigeria’s police forces as a modern, responsible and ethically institution.
