There were rumors questioning Chelle’s commitment to the position, especially after reports in the Nigerian media claimed that he held talks with Olympique de Marseille and also changed the agency that represented him.

Chelle’s current contract with Nigeria is set to expire in January 2027, while discussions over a new deal are yet to reach a conclusion.

However, both the NFF and the National Sports Commission have publicly expressed their desire to retain him as head coach and negotiations aimed at securing a contract extension are expected to continue.
