The Lagos Travel Football Championship returns for a highly successful sixth day

The beautiful game slows down, but the intensity only increases. Matchday six of Season 4 of the Lagos Walking Football League (LWFL) returns this Saturday, 29 August 2026, to the spiritual home of the sport in Nigeria – the Eagle Club ground in Surulere.

Fans are in for an exciting morning of tactical passing, great teamwork and zero sprints as the Season 4 title race enters a decisive phase.

The morning kicks into action at 9am with a history-filled clash. First Waka A: The 2022 and 2023 back-to-back champions and Season 2 finalists clash with the Managers, who took first place last year to break their dominance.

It is a repeat of the first league final of the first season, when both teams finished with 12 points each and had to fight for the trophy on goal difference.

In the second match, attention turns to the growing women’s and mixed division as Waka Ladies take on the Naija Gunners, a sign of how far the league has come as Season 4 now features expanded divisions, including women’s teams.

The match of the day for the neutrals, however, could be the last. First Waka B enters matchday six as the team to beat. Undefeated and top of the league with a maximum of 15 points from five games, they have been a defensive fortress, yet to concede a single goal this season. They face an FFC team desperate for points to get out of the bottom half.

Reflecting on the journey so far, Mr Godson Uti, the head of the Lagos Waka Football Association, expressed satisfaction with the impressive growth and organization of the fourth season.

“I am very satisfied with the progress of the championship in the fourth season,” said Mr. Uti.

“The turnout, discipline on the field and competitive spirit were fantastic. We look forward to bigger things in the future.”

From four teams in an inaugural edition to a full fourth season with men’s, women’s and corporate interests, the Lagos Walking Football League is proving that football truly has no age limit.
