Abuja (basic reporter) Interior Minister, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has again demonstrated his unshakable commitment for the development of young people and the transformative leadership in Nigeria, during an interactive session with members of the Junior Chamber International (JCI).

Speaking to the event, the minister stressed that the real leadership goes beyond ambition, requires preparation, integrity and an incessant commitment to excellence. He described the leadership both as a scientific and practical, exhorting young leaders to understand that, just like in chemistry or physics, the results of the leadership are determined by the quality of their contribution.

“Leadership is not accidental; it is intentional,” said the minister. “These are of character, perseverance and excellence. And above all, the leadership is the trust, the greatest capital that any leader can possess. Once lost, it is almost impossible to regain.”

On Friday 8 August, a declaration by the director of the press and public relations of the Ministry of the Interior, Ozoya Imohimi, said that Dr. Tunji-Ojo encouraged the JCI not to avoid looking for tutoring, support and partnership, stressing that his office is not only open to collaboration, but already sees them as a worthy partner in shaping the future.

“You don’t have to ask for a partnership, I do it. Because I see the future in you,” said the minister. “We bring together something special and show the world that this generation of Nigerians is ready to drive, ready to build and ready to change the narrative.”

Dr. Tunji-Ojo also underlined the importance of long-term collaboration with young leaders and stressed that the ministry’s commitment with them will not be a fleeting meeting, but a marathon built on a shared vision and prolonged action.

The minister appreciated their altruistic service, recognizing the personal sacrifices made and committing his support both in words and actions. “Please continue to do what you are doing. It is more than support is a commitment. We transform our ideals shared in the lasting inherited.”

Previously, the president of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Oluwatoyin Atanda deeply expressed appreciation for reforms, energy and commitment of the Minister for National Development, in particular in the guidance of change and institutional transformation. “We know how difficult it is to create a reform mentality within the public service and we have to praise your tenacity and leadership,” he said.

He said JCI Nigeria, a non -governmental organization, is part of the global JCI movement which was founded in 1915 and currently operates in over 140 countries.

Oluwatoyin explained that, in Nigeria, the organization is active for 68 years with over 100,000 members in 30 states and FCTs. He said JCI includes members of the city, who are young professionals and entrepreneurs and members of higher institutions and undertake community development projects, leadership training and international collaboration.

Oluwatoyin Atanda declared that the visit to the Ministry coincides with the northern conference of JCI, which will be held in Abuja from 8-11 August 2025, attracting over 300 delegates from all northern and southern regions of the country. He said the conference will focus on leadership, innovation and practical steps to resolve the challenges of the local community.

He said JCI stressed his model of not asking what the government can do for them, but rather to ask what young people can do to create a lasting positive change. He said that their four pillars are individual development, business and entrepreneurship, the impact of the community and the international collaboration that continue to guide the programs and the awareness of the organization.

The minister praised the initiative and reaffirmed his support for development led by young people and commitment to leadership. The meeting ended with a note of mutual respect and commitment for the future collaboration for the benefit of the nation.
